1. Acknowledgments:
   • Purpose: To ensure that the document signer is who they claim to be and that they voluntarily signed the document.
   • Commonly needed for valuable assets like deeds, mortgages, and deeds of trust.
   • The signer can either sign the document in front of you during the notarization or acknowledge their signature if they’ve signed it beforehand.
   • No need for the signer to physically sign in your presence, but positive identification is essential.
2. Jurats:
   • Purpose: To verify that the contents of a document are true.
   • Also known as an affidavit or verification on oath.
   • The signer must personally appear before you, sign the document in your presence, and take an oath or affirmation.
   • Administering the oath or affirmation is crucial because the signer is affirming the document’s truthfulness.
3. Copy Certifications:
   • Purpose: To confirm that a reproduction of an original document is an accurate transcription or reproduction.
   • Commonly used for diplomas, driver’s licenses, leases, contracts, vehicle titles, Social Security cards, medical records, and bills of sale.
   • The person with the original document (document custodian) brings it to you. You make a photocopy and complete a certificate confirming its accuracy.
